MADE IN MUMBAI
A PROPOSAL FOR NITIN CHHABRA

EVERY GREAT CITY GIVES YOU SOMETHING.
New York gives you confidence.
Tokyo gives you discipline.
Paris gives you perspective.
And Mumbai? She gives you a dream worth chasing.
Every day, countless dreamers come to Mumbai. In 1997, I was one of them. And my first lesson came over a crackling announcement at Borivali station:
"Churchgate ke liye jalad local platform #2 par aa rahi hai."
From the push I got, I gathered what I was in for. I was 22, an engineering graduate from NIT Agartala. By the time the train crossed Andheri, my clothes and my documents—along with my hopes and dreams—were crushed beyond belief. And by the time the train crossed Bandra, I fainted. But here’s the thing about Mumbai: our local trains do not let us fall. They are just that crowded. So I stayed afloat. And I heard a motherly voice say:
"Tension mat le. Sab theek ho jayega. Baith idhar."
I was given a window-seat, a modak, and I was told:
"Tera sugar level kam ho gaya hai. Tension mat le. Yeh Ganpati ka prasad hai. Sab theek ho jayega."
I gathered what was left of my dignity and looked up. In that crowd, I couldn't tell who the woman was. But she stayed on my mind. I reached Churchgate. Went for my interview. Didn’t get the job. But I knew I would be alright. Because I could still hear those words:
"Tension mat le. Sab theek ho jayega."
That woman is the reason I didn't fall when I was 22. She is the reason I am still standing at 51. Mumbai took us all in. She didn't just shape us. She made us.
That became the idea behind MADE IN MUMBAI. Not where you were born, but where you become who you are. Not just merchandise, but a statement of identity. For the musician, the actor, the CEO, the dreamer whose life was transformed by this city, that line says:
MUMBAI MADE ME WHO I AM.
The best clothing doesn't just express style. It expresses identity. MADE IN MUMBAI becomes that expression.
THE T-SHIRT
FRONT
MADE IN MUMBAI
Just three words. But a lifetime of meaning.
BACK
The artwork draws inspiration from Mumbai's suburban railway network—the lifelines that carry millions of dreams every single day. Rather than functioning as a literal map, the network provides texture, with only the key junctions boldly standing out. Running through the heart of the artwork are four lines from my original song, Mumbai:
MUMBAI
SHE'S THE GUIDING STAR
LET HER SHINE ON YOU
NO MATTER WHO YOU ARE
Those lines transform Mumbai from a place into a spirit.
WHY THIS MATTERS
Cities like New York, Tokyo, and Paris have inspired fashion for years. Mumbai deserves to stand proudly alongside them. This isn't just about creating merchandise. It's about creating something that celebrates one of the world's greatest cities and the people she's made.
BEYOND THE T-SHIRT
If the concept resonates, MADE IN MUMBAI could grow into a complete collection of t-shirts, jackets, hoodies, bags, and caps that extend the language even further.
THE HEARTBEAT
The emotional core of this concept is my original song, Mumbai, which won Anthem of the Year at the AVIMA Awards in 2010. This year, I'm giving the song the release it has always deserved—with a cinematic music video, live performances, and a renewed campaign built around it. So the song becomes the heartbeat of the collection.

A CLOSING THOUGHT
Every day, Mumbai gives someone a dream worth chasing. Perhaps it's time she had a collection worthy of the people she's made. I'd be honored to build it with you.
