And Mumbai? She gives you dreams worth chasing.

Every day, countless dreamers come to Mumbai. In 1997, I was one of them. And my first lesson came over a crackling announcement at Borivali station:

"Churchgate ke liye jalad local platform #2 par aa rahi hai."
("Fast train for Churchgate is arriving on platform #2.")

​

From that first push, I knew what I was in for. I was a 22-year-old engineering graduate from NIT Agartala. By the time the train crossed Andheri, my clothes and my documents—and my hopes and dreams—were crushed beyond belief. And somewhere after Bandra, I fainted. But here’s the thing about Mumbai: our local trains do not let us fall. They are just that crowded. So I stayed afloat. And I heard a motherly voice say:

"Tension mat le. Sab theek ho jayega. Tu baith idhar."
("Don't worry. Everything will be alright. Sit here.")

​

I was given a window-seat, a modak, and I was told:

"Tera sugar level kam ho gaya hai. Yeh le. Ganpati ka prasad hai. Tension mat le. Sab theek ho jayega."
("Your sugar level's dropped. Have this. It's Ganpati's prasad. Don't worry. Everything will be alright.")

I looked up to thank the woman. But in that crowd, I couldn't tell who she was. I reached Churchgate. Went for my interview. Didn’t get the job. But I knew I would be alright. Because I could still hear those comforting words:

​"Tension mat le. Sab theek ho jayega."
("Don't worry. Everything will be alright.")

​

Looking back, I think Mumbai introduced herself to me that morning. She didn't just shape me. She made me.
 

That became the idea behind MADE IN MUMBAI. It's not about where you were born. It's about where you became who you are. For everyone whose life was transformed by this city, those three words simply mean:

The artwork draws inspiration from Mumbai's suburban railway network—the lifelines that carry millions of dreams every day. Rather than serving as a literal map, the network provides texture, with only the key junctions boldly standing out. Running through the heart of the artwork are four lines from my original song, Mumbai:

SHE'S THE GUIDING STAR
LET HER SHINE ON YOU
NO MATTER WHO YOU ARE

Those lines transform Mumbai from a place into a spirit.

WHY THIS MATTERS

Around the world, cities inspire fashion because people are proud of where they come from. Mumbai deserves that same place in the cultural conversation. MADE IN MUMBAI isn't just clothing. It's a badge of belonging.

If the concept resonates, MADE IN MUMBAI could grow into a complete collection of t-shirts, jackets, hoodies, bags, and caps that extend the language even further.

THE SONG

The emotional core of the concept is my original song, Mumbai, which won Anthem of the Year at the AVIMA Awards in 2010. This year, I'll give it the release it has always deserved—with a cinematic music video, live performances, and a renewed campaign built around it.
